Copperleaf Celebrates Success at the 2022 EMEA Summit in London
From 20-21 September, we hosted the 2022 Copperleaf® EMEA Summit in Richmond, London. During the two-day event, we welcomed more than 50 attendees from the UK, Netherlands, Denmark, Spain, France, and the US across the energy, water, and transportation sectors.
Together, the Copperleaf Community shared knowledge, connected with industry peers, and exchanged best practices through client-led sessions. Attendees also enjoyed an update on the Copperleaf product roadmap, which showcased exciting new features and capabilities as well as some initiatives in development.

Day One Highlights
Stefan Sadnicki, Managing Director for Copperleaf in Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) kicked off the event by welcoming new clients to the Copperleaf Community—including South East Water, South Staffs Water, United Utilities, Portsmouth Water, and National Highways. Paul Sakrzewski, President of Copperleaf, highlighted our recent results and emphasized our commitment to providing extraordinary experiences to our clients by making their success our success.
David Riley, Head of Carbon Neutrality at Anglian Water, presented a case study showcasing how Anglian Water, through use of Copperleaf’s Decision Analytics Solution, has delivered a 62% reduction in capital carbon, increased productivity, and enhanced decision making to increase the value delivered to stakeholders.
Thijs Derksen, Head of Grid Planning (Low and Medium Voltage) at Enexis, shared his view on the impact of the energy transition on distribution system operators (DSOs) and how having one line-of-sight in investment planning enables the company to translate strategic goals into operational activities.
The presentation also provided insight on how Enexis uses Unit Cost Models, an option within Copperleaf Portfolio™ that enables planning teams to create business cases much faster and more accurately by leveraging a standard, shared set of cost models across their organisations.
Networking on the River Thames
In the evening, the group enjoyed a river boat cruise along the Thames where attendees had the opportunity to network with peers and make new connections. Guests returned to the Richmond Harbour Hotel for a delicious dinner, drinks, and the much-anticipated Copperleaf Community People’s Choice Award. This was a fitting occasion to celebrate the achievements of our clients and allow attendees to vote for their favourite success story.

Finalist Anglian Water shared how the team has enabled ‘eyes-open’ decision making by aligning their Copperleaf Value Framework with the six capitals—financial, people, social, manufactured, natural, and intellectual. This allows the company to demonstrate its commitment to delivering public value to the regulator and shows customers, communities, and investors how their interests are being considered.
But it was VISUE’s story of teamwork, tenacity, and triumph that came out on top. Their submission celebrated the collaboration between VISUE, the participating DSOs, and the Copperleaf team—working together to co-create a Danish CNAIM model and support a value-based decision-making process.

To kick off day two, Adam Lloyd, Senior Project Manager at National Highways, presented their Capital Portfolio Management case study, demonstrating how the Copperleaf solution will support an integrated approach to capital portfolio management and planning ahead of the next Road Planning Period, RIS3.
David Lamb, Decision Support Manager, Environment Planning, and Innovation at United Utilities, joined our customer experience team in showcasing asset risk capture, a community-inspired product initiative that enables teams to record risks with an initial evaluation on likelihood and consequence, and review, refine, and analyse these risks over time.
